The Black-throated Laughingthrush Pterorhinus chinensis is one of many songbird species impacted by trade. Found in Cambodia, China, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam, it is sought-after by songbird hobbyists locally and abroad.

Come and listen to how birds are traded for their songs, their colour, and their perceived rarity, the illegal and unsustainable trade in songbirds is driving a rapidly growing list of species towards extinction. Although global in nature, no-where is this threat greater than in Southeast Asia. Few songbird species are protected by national laws or listed in the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES). Join Chris to learn more about this little-known issue and how Monitor is tackling this conserva-tion crisis.
